About the Speaker

Brenda is currently an independent private practice provider of services to children in their homes and community.  She has served children and families for 40 years.  In 1976, she received her BS in OT and completed her MS in 1996, in Advanced Clinical Practice from OSU. 

Her experience includes school-based settings, early intervention centers and in-home pediatric services.  Brenda also provides consultation and training to school systems, parents and organizations regarding the delivery of related services, professional development and practice guidelines, as well as State/Federal policies impacting children. 

Brenda has served the OT community throughout her career, receiving the OOTA Award of Merit and Continuing Education of Recognition in 1984, the OOTA Award of Merit again in 2003 and in 2016, Brenda received both OOTA Award of Merit and Continuing Education of Recognition.  In 2006 and 2016, she received the OOTA Passion award.  She has served OOTA as a past Liaison for School Therapists (1978-84) and Vice President from 1997-2001. 

Some of her OOTA and AOTA (past and present) contributions and activities include 

-Writing and editing OOTA publications, newsletters articles

-Representing Ohio on OSEP federally funded AOTA Projects

-Contributing author for AOTA on line course and fact sheets

-Chairing OOTA Medicaid Access and Implementation Task Force, successfully achieving 2009 Medicaid access for independent OT providers 

-Attending meetings and networking with multiple state level agencies, organizations, committees and task groups to represent the practice and interests of OT practitioners with children, such as Caseload/Workload, Medicaid School Program, Early Intervention, STRS, IEP Documentation, Related Service Shortage Coalition

-Monitoring policy and legislation as a member of the OOTA Legislative Committee

-Advocating and providing testimony regarding Caseload/Workload changes, Medicaid School Program, Early Intervention, STRS, IEP Documentation
